Sean Kirkland, LMFT, CCTP

Marriage and Family Therapist

Sean is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He grew up in Marietta and Woodstock, GA. before earning a B.A. in Journalism/Telecommunication Arts from the University of Georgia. He earned a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) from Mercer University’s School of Medicine. Sean has experience working with individuals, couples, and families in residential substance use recovery, and group therapy.

He is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the Georgia Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (GAMFT). He is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and is currently training to be a Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapy Professional (C-DBT) in the near future

Sean’s areas of interest include trauma, addiction, polyvagal theory, art therapy, phenomenology, epigenetics, sleep science, and neuroscience/neuropsychology. His therapeutic approach is a combination of symbolic-experiential therapy, including narrative therapy and sand tray therapy. He consistently stretches himself in the areas of seeing other perspectives and multiculturalism. Sean also provides CBT-I treatment for patients to overcome insomnia and improve their sleep quality. As a lifelong learner, curiosity is his guiding light. He is passionate about helping people break through to new experiences and new understandings of themselves and the relationships in which they live and breathe.

When Sean is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, walking on trails, watching movies, reading graphic novels, traveling, and trying new restaurants.
