Carlos Amaya, MPAS, PA-C, is a nationally certified Physician Assistant (PA). He graduated cum laude from San Juan Bautista Escuela de Medicina’s Physician Assistant Program in June 2023, earning a Master of Physician Assistant Studies, and subsequently obtained NCCPA certification and medical licensure.

Carlos began his clinical career in psychiatry within an outpatient, interventional-based setting, providing comprehensive care to patients ages six and older across a wide range of mental health conditions. His experience includes managing psychotropic medications and delivering interventional treatments such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and SPRAVATO® (esketamine) for treatment-resistant depression. Additionally, during the past two years, Carlos has served as a preceptor for physician assistant students spanning five PA programs, providing hands-on clinical education, supervision, and mentorship during psychiatric rotations.

His approach to care is holistic, evidence-based, and patient-centered, with a strong emphasis on shared decision-making. Carlos prioritizes patient autonomy by ensuring individuals understand their treatment options, including risks, benefits, and goals of care, allowing for collaborative and individualized treatment planning. In addition to providing care in English and Spanish, he has expanded access to psychiatric services by learning Portuguese, allowing him to better serve diverse and underserved patient populations.

In his free time, Carlos enjoys traveling to explore new places, cultures, and cuisines, spending quality time with loved ones, staying physically active, and continuously learning new skills. He is intentional about living a balanced lifestyle that nurtures the mind, body, and soul.

We’re proud to share that our three affiliated practices—Psych Atlanta, Georgia Psychiatry & Sleep, and Roots Behavioral Health—are now part of the Hightop Health family. While each clinic has built its own legacy of trusted care, we’re taking the next step forward—bringing everything together under the Hightop Health name.

This change is part of our commitment to creating a premier, clinician-led outpatient mental health group that sets a new standard for comprehensive, compassionate care. Though the brand is evolving, nothing about your experience is: same expert teams, same innovative treatments, same personalized approach. Now unified by a single mission—to deliver better mental health care that inspires hope and lasting healing.

This transition won’t affect your care—but it will enhance the way we show up, work together, and serve communities across Georgia, Texas, and beyond.
